The numbers make it clear. The number one drug addiction problem isn’t marijuana, or heroin or crystal meth. The biggest drug abuse problem in this country is prescription medication. First in line are pain medications, opiates, followed by stimulants and benzodiazapines. Children are popping them like candy these days. The statistics are staggering. The government has tried to set up a system to monitor inappropriate activity. Guess what, most doctors don’t utilize it. There are only two reasons I can think of, why doctors are not fully on-board with Prescription Monitoring Program. They are either too lazy, or computer illiterate. Neither is very flattering.

The statistics are staggering. Prescription medication dependency is the number one health problem in the United States. According to the numbers it is second behind marijuana. I believe if the true numbers were known, it would outdistance pot too, by a mile. Pain pills like Oxycontin and Vicodin lead the list followed closely by Xanax and a host of others too long to mention. Prescription addiction is the second leading cause of accidental death, behind only auto accidents. There is help. Go to these websites and take a look. As a former pot user for 15 years I can speak with some authority on the subject. Marijuana addiction is a tricky thing. As far as I’m concerned, marijuana is not addicting, that’s right. The problem with marijuana is the same as the problem with alcohol and other drugs. For “normal” people, marijuana is just something to enjoy, like a beer watching the ball game. For people like me, who have the gene for drug dependency and addiction, marijuana takes control of your life and does not let go without a fight. The bottom line is marijuana is not the problem. The problem is whether or not you are the type of person who can take it and then leave it alone with no problem.
