Seasonal Affective disorder is a mood disorder where people have normal mental health for three quarters of the year but depressive symptoms in the winter. This particular disorder is classified as a Major Depression but is not a unique mood disorder. Symptoms and treatment of SAD is similar to other forms of depression.

A serious mood change happens in some people when the seasons change, causing them to sleep more frequent, have less energy and feel depressed. Symptoms can be severe, and usually disappear when Spring arrives.

Symptoms of SAD
Morning sickness, over sleeping with the difficulty of waking up, over eating, lacking energy, difficulty concentrating or a withdrawal from life are symptoms of the disorder and leads to depression. People suffering with the disorder may also feel hopeless and lack the pleasures of life.

Reverse Seasonal Affective Disorder is the seasonal affective disorder for the summer. It may start in the late spring and early summer. It may include heightened anxiety. Spring and summer SAD may have symptoms of a lowered sex drive, lowered appetite, weight loss, insomnia and anxiety. Many of the classic symptoms of a depression.

Seasonal Affective Disorder may be applied as an added description to people with major depressive disorder or bipolar disorder. Which is why it is not regarded as a separate disorder but called a course specifier.

Some people with seasonal affective disorder may end up developing some form of bipolar disorder, a major depressive disorder. People that have seasonal affective disorder, also known as winter blues, should get treatment.

It can cause one to have suicidal thoughts.

Signs of SAD
To be diagnosed with SAD disorder, depressive episodes at a particular time of year must be present, the same depressive episodes must happen again at the same time of year, the depression pattern must last two years with no non seasonal depression symptoms, and the seasonal episodes must outnumber other depression periods.

Treatment for Seasonal Affective Disorder
Treatment for winter based SAD includes light therapy. Cloud cover contributes to SAD’s negative effects. The light therapy treatment is when far more watts than a regular light is used. The bright light therapy is very effective when the person with the disorder sits a distance of thirty to sixty centimeters in front of the light with the eyes open but not staring directly at it for thirty to sixty minutes. Ionized air is releasing charged particles into the sleep environment, by using a device that uses high voltage to ionize air molecules. Medications such as antidepressants are also effective.

Cognitive behavioral therapy is another source of effective treatment. Also taking a trip or vacation to a sunny destination can be very effective for overcoming the disorder. Getting outside more and doing more exercise will help improve depressive episodes by adding natural light exposure. By monitoring diets to healthier foods with less carbohydrates will help with the lack of energy. Also, monitoring sleep patterns by not over sleeping and setting goals to get up in the morning will help stay on a path of recovery.

Have you ever been scared or anxious? Had moments where your heart was pounding in your chest? That is anxiety and is something we have all experienced from time to time in our lives.

Symptoms And Treatment Of Anxiety Disorders

Have you ever been scared or anxious? Had moments where your heart was pounding in your chest? That is anxiety and is something we have all experienced from time to time in our lives. Yet these moments do not have to control our lives or hinder you from going out into the world and leading a full and happy life. It is when these fears become a life-altering problem that you might have an anxiety disorder. If this is the case then you need to seek help out.

Having anxiety is natural. Think of it as a natural built in security system which everyone is born with and has its purpose. Having such feelings is a way to help stay alert. It turns into a disorder issue when you become so nervous or overwhelmed that you cannot leave your home or do even the most mundane tasks. There are signs and symptoms to look out for in order to know for sure whether or not you have a real problem and should seek assistance with it.

A common symptom is when you have such intense feelings of nervousness and fear that it becomes hard to breath. Another is you get so wound up and nervous it becomes impossible for you to leave your home. Such as many find it hard to go shopping or enter crowded buildings because they’re afraid of what may happen.

Anxiety attacks can happen suddenly, without warning. They can also be caused by neurotic thoughts. Thoughts about something that was not cleaned properly, for example. Thoughts about what could happen if something is not done properly could trigger an anxiety attack. These attacks can get so bad that it can become impossible to function normally as you now question every decision or possible event, and your over thinking causes an episode.

Because these attacks are so traumatizing to the mind they may cause physical symptoms. Often, this is what leads to those suffering from this mental illness to seek help from physicians and other care providers. It should be at this point that they seek professional help of some kind to try and learn how to manage and even rid themselves of the anxiety disorder.

Once it has come to light that indeed you have this type of anxiety disorder, your doctor or therapist will wish to treat it. There are forms of treatment that can be done by a series of sessions in which you look into your life at what is the cause of the attacks. There are two types of psychotherapy which seem to work the best; Cognitive-behavioral therapy and Exposure therapy. Both are done over a series of sessions where together with your therapist you discover the root of the issue. If you can discover the root of the problem then you can control it and eventually conquer it to some degree where you can lead a normal functioning life.

To better treat you and ensure that you do not relapse into old habits or behaviors it is possible for the therapist to prescribe medication along with therapy. Using the two together to try and aid in your recovery. The downside and heavy draw back to using medication is that many of them that are used have the chance to be habit forming as well as cause some unwanted side effects. It is always best to discuss the drugs thoroughly with your doctor before taking anything and to alert them should any problems arise while you are taking the medication.

While having an Anxiety disorder can be traumatizing, it is not the end of the world. Receiving proper treatment and support from family, friends and a skilled doctor will ensure that you are not held prisoner by this illness. That one day you can lead a full and active life just like everyone else without worrying about when the next attack will strike. get help

Attention Deficit hyperactivity disorder, ADHD, is a disorder concerning the behavioral developmental part of the brain. It is characterized by attentional and hyperactivity problems. The symptoms for ADHD can start before age seven. It is one of the most commonly studied and diagnosed disorders. ADHD and ADD are diagnosed more in boys then girls. Sometimes the diagnosis of ADHD can be missed because the symptoms can be hard to differentiate from other disorders.

Somewhere between three to five percent of children world wide are affected with ADHD. The percentage of children diagnosed to have the symptoms into adulthood are thirty to fifty percent. Those who are diagnosed with this chronic disorder develop coping strategies to compensate for some or all of the impairments. Sixty percent of the children diagnosed will continue to have symptoms into adulthood. Those who do rarely remain treated causing chaotic lifestyles. They may rely on alcohol and non prescribed drugs to get through life.

Three key behaviors are inattention, hyperactivity and impulsively. For six months or more and to a degree that is greater than other children of the same age, symptoms must be observed for the diagnosis of Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder to be determined. There are three symptom type categories that classify ADHD.

Predominantly inattentive type may include the forgetting of things, easily distracted, the difficulty of maintaining focus on one task. If maintaining focus was accomplished the person may become bored after a short while unless doing something that is enjoyed. The difficulty of learning something new is a strong symptom and can be very frustrating for the child or adult. Which also happens because the processing of information accurately and quickly is more difficult then others.

Predominantly hyperactive impulsive type may include talking inconsistently, the need to be in constant motion which will make sitting still in school or doing quiet tasks and activities difficult. Being very impatient, quick to temper and emotional can also be seen. The third type is when both the predominantly attentive and predominantly hyperactive impulse type symptoms are met when determining the diagnosis.

Being a child with Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder can be very difficult for the child. Because children without the disorder might not understand how the child diagnosed copes and reacts to life, children without it may avoid and be cruel. Teasing is always a factor and must always be spoken about to the child with the disorder and to the child without. Children with the disorder tend to feel like they do not fit in with the rest so they stay with the children who are like them or exclude themselves all together.

Treatment involves counseling, and lifestyle changes which include behavior modifications. It usually consists of a combination of medications. Medical and behavioral treatment is the most effective management strategy for Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder. Although medication improves behavior over a short term it does not seem to improve over a long term outcome. Behavioral treatment includes psycho educational input, behavior therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy. Parent training and education have short term effects. Family therapy has littler use in the treatment for the disorder spoken of.

There are many different mental ailments people have to face. Millions of people currently suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Many are not aware they have it. Those who want to gain the right treatments can use this guide and get some answers. It is very important to be sensitive to those who are currently dealing with this and try to help them recover and find different options as soon as possible.

PTSD is triggered by a highly emotional traumatic experience of some kind. Sometimes PTSD is caused by some sort of accident. Other cases are the result of a life threatening situation. PTSD can also be caused by the witnessing of a catastrophic event.

The biggest group of individuals that are known to suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder are members of the military. This of course will apply to those members who have actually participated in different wars and have seen a lot of death or tragedy. This can take a huge toll on the mind and can really cause emotional damage that needs to be treated.

This is the type of problem that is not going to be taken care of overnight. Those who are serious about getting the right treatment can look into different therapy options. Getting with a professional is a great way to talk openly about thoughts and the actual events that led to suffering from the disorder. Try to get with someone who specializes in PTSD.

Medication can be taken to help manage the symptoms. This can include medication that will help the individual sleep through the night without any flashbacks or nightmares. Sleep problems are a common symptom of PTSD.

Follow all of the given instructions of the medication and the right results should stem after the body starts to react and adjust to everything.

It is vital to get in touch with the very best treatments possible. Those who are having a lot of trouble do not have a lot of time to waste and need to get with someone or an office that will provide all of the tools necessary to get ahead. Get on the phone and talk with people and ask for the right tools for help and start making all of the necessary appointments.

Throughout this entire ordeal it is very important to remember not to give up. When getting started with treatment, it might feel like nothing is working but it will take a little bit of time. Try to be as patient as possible and talk with the doctor about any new feelings or frustrations that have come up. Acknowledging problems will in advance is always a great way to stay on top.

One of the most effective treatments Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is known as Eye Movement Dissociative Reflex (EMDR).
The reason this is so important is simple. Many people who are alcoholics and or drug addicts are using these substances to self soothe and self medicate themselves. Unless these underlying causes are properly identified and treated, the person will, in all probability, never achieve long term abstinence. This does raise the question of whether prescription medications should be used. As long as the person taking the meds is monitored for possible abuse, it is simply prescribed medication, for a legitimate medical condition.

Once you understand an addict or an alcoholic is really self-medicating mental and emotional problems, things start to make more sense. Most treatment centers claim to do a good job with both co-occurring problems. Don’t believe them. The vast majority pay what is called “lip service” and not much else. The best dual diagnosis rehab centers focus their whole program around treating the underlying causes for self-medicating behavior. The psychiatric condition is what is primary. The drug alcohol abuse is what the person is using to self medicate the psychiatric problem. Which came first the chicken or the egg? The person must stop abusing drugs and alcohol, of course. However, the co-occurring problem must be properly and accurately diagnosed and treated, or the person will must assuredly have a very hard time staying clean and sober and away from their drugs of choice.

Qualified professionals at an addiction drug treatment center specialize in helping patients who want to stop drug abuse. It starts with detoxification of the body to remove all toxic substances. Individuals who have co-occurring disorders can even find rehab centers who offer dual diagnosis rehab and treatment. Treating both issues together has been found to be more effective, if done correctly. These services are tailored to the individual for an effective treatment program, as each individual’s case can be different. Standard therapy practices are used as well as a solid aftercare and relapse prevention program.
