The 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous has saved more drunks than the salvation army ever dreamed of. So what’s wrong with making the the 12 steps the focal point of alcohol rehab?  Nothing, except treatment and rehabilitation is supposed to be so much more. Today, more and more of the best drug alcohol rehabs have moved the focus of their programs into individualized therapy based plans which put the 12 steps where they belong, as aftercare. Good non 12 step treatment centers make therapy and counseling the primary agenda of their programs and leaving the 12 steps until the very end, where they belong.
